Description

Tin-glazed earthenware plate painted in blue, filled with greengages painted naturalistically in green and yellow

Buff eathenware, the plate and fruit moulded, tin-glazed, and painted in blue on the dish, and shades of yellow and green on the greengages. The glaze has crawled on the greengages. The circular dish has a shaped six-sided edge, shallow curved and dimpled sides, and a footring which is pierced by two suspension holes. The inside of the rim is decorated with a blue border comprising a line with pairs of scrolls with two dots below at intervals alternating with a shallow triangular motif formed by downward pointing lines. The twenty-five greengages are painted naturalistically in shades of yellow and green.
