Production: Unidentified French pottery
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in pale yellowish-green and manganese-purple
Buff earthenware, the back moulded in relief, the receptacle thrown and applied, tin-glazed on the front and painted in pale yellowish-green and manganese-purple; the glaze has been wiped off most of the reverse. The vesica-shaped back is moulded in relief with a winged cherub's head at the top and a cherub on each side flanking the Crucifixion. Below the winged cherub's head there is a round hole to take a suspension cord or hook. The receptacle is bowl-shaped with an everted rim, and a low narrow foot. The outlines of the cherubs, Christ and his loin cloth are manganese-purple. The cherub's head at the top, the upper part of the Cross, foliage at the base of the Cross,and the border of uneven vertical strokes around the upper part of the receptacle are yellowish-green.
