Soft-paste porcelain decorated with blue ground colour, painting in puce camaieu and gilding. Circular with deep curved sides, standing on a footring with a hole bored through it for suspension. Decorated in the middle with a view of a harbour with many figures, three horses, and a dog. Round the edge there is a blue border decorated on its lower edge with a wavy spray of fern-like leaves and a plain gold band, and on the upper edge with a plain band and a row of spots. The edge is encircled by a gold band, and there is another round the exterior of the footring. Within the footring is inscribed in purple, 'Vue du Port de/la Rochelle'

According to a hand-written note on the original catalogue entry, Mlle Jottrand of the Musée de Marimont pointed this dish out as a fake. The porcelain is probably Sèvres painted outside the factory, and the fake Tournai mark added.
