Soft-paste porcelain painted in polychrome enamels, and gilt
Soft-paste porcelain painted in polychrome enamels and gilt. Circular with twelve indentations in the edge, sloping rim, and shallow curved well, standing on a low footrim. The plate is decorated in the centre with a monogram comprising a C in gold, and an L formed of pink roses and leaves. On the rim there are three oval medallions containing sepia towers surrounded by gold frames and roses, alternating with three kidney-shaped panels containing polychrome landscapes surrounded by gold frames, and flanked by gold swags terminating in tassels. The edge of the rim is gilded.

This plate and EC.22B-1945 are replacements for plates in the Sèvres ' Asturias Service (Service des Asturies), so called because it was given by Louis XVI to Maria Luisa Teresa, Princessa de Asturias, wife Charles, Principe de Asturias, who in 1788 became Charles IV of Spain. The service was delivered in stages beginning in 1775 with supplements in 1776. 1783, 1786, 1787 and 1789.
