Description

Soft-paste porcelain rim of a plate, decorated underglaze in blue and painted with birds in polychrome onglaze enamels.

Soft-paste porcelain rim of a plate, painted underglaze in blue, and with red, puce and grey enamels. The sherd is part of a wavy-edged plate with raised rim, painted with vignettes of birds in flight reserved against a runny 'mazarine-blue' ground.

History note: From the Aubrey Smith Collection. 'He may have found it at Longton where his family lived for a century'.
