Harlow slipware was formerly known as 'Metropolitan Slipware' because large quantities of it had been found in London, for example, fragment C. 4.39-1964. There were slipware potteries at Carters Mead, Brays Grove and Latton Street. Moralizing slip-trailed inscriptions are found on several pieces of Harlow slipware and would have appealed to local puritans. Another example of the exhortation to FAST AND PRAY appears on a pipkin in the Glaisher Collection, Gl.C.35-1928.
