Description

Jug. Earthenware with slip-trailed decoration under lead glaze. Oviform body with flaring neck, pinched up into a lip at the front, and loop handle. On the body, above a row of foliated crosses, is the inscription 'FOR EARTH I AM'.

History note: Purchased by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher from Sotheby's, July 14th, 1927, lot 19, for £10.
