Baking dish. Earthenware, moulded, the front with trailed-slip decoration under a lead glaze; reverse unglazed. Rectangular with rounded corners and crinkled edge. In the middle is a horse saddled and harnessed walking to the left with the date '1787' above. His body is decorated with feather combing. In front of him and behind him there is a vertical wavy line, and behind him a more open wavy line.
History note: Purchased by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher from G.H. Hennah's shop, God's Providence House, Watergate Row, Chester on 26 October 1911.

According to Mr Hennah, in a letter to Glaisher, dated November 4th, 1911, the dish came from Oswestry (Shropshire), but this may have referred to its provenance.
