Red earthenware, coated with white slip under mottled greenish-yellow lead-glaze, with modelled and applied decoration in high relief on the finial. Of inverted V-shaped section with at one end a finial in the form of a globe, with a crown on the top and the middle two cherubs, a griffin, and a fourth ornament (missing).
History note: From the Manor House at Ilfracombe, built in 1561. Rennie Manderson, Bull Hill, Pilton, Barnstaple, North Devon, from whom purchased on 2 December 1924, for £10 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge. The tile arrived in Cambridge on 13 December 1924.
