Description

Bulbous jug with a missing base. Grey earthenware decorated with applied strips and pellets of clay in a zigzag pattern. White slip over a dark brown clay surface wash. The neck is fluted, and the handle is of hexagonal shape, with a leaf like pad applied on either side at the top.

History note: Dug up in Jewin Street, London, 1878. Smith, Thomas Street, Westminster. Mr S. Fenton, London, from whom bought in January or February 1909 for nearly £2 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity Street, Cambridge
