Pale buff earthenware, tin-glazed off-white overall; the glaze on the reverse is thin in places and tinged with green. Painted in blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, manganese-purple, black, and white. Shape 59. Circular with sloping rim, deep well and recessed base.
The Judgement of Paris. Paris, seated on the left, hands the golden apple to Venus who stands in the centre, accompanied by Juno and Cupid; further to the right, Minerva dresses herself, and her shield, spear and helmet lie in the foreground. Mercury is on the left of Paris and a winged Victory holds a wreath over Venus' head. In the background there is a mountainous island with buildings and bridges. The edge is yellow. On the back, `Paris.' is inscribed in the middle in blue, and single yellow bands encircle the foot and shoulder, and two the rim.
