Description

Vase. Hard-paste porcelain with a powder-blue ground, and celadon and copper-red details, with lion mask handles and reserved with two large oval panels one depicting a dragon and a tiger the other depicting a dragon and a phoenix.

Vase. Hard-paste porcelain decorated in mottled underglaze blue and painted with celadon and copper-red details. Of archaic bronze 'zun' form, the spherical body rests on a high splayed foot and is surmounted by a tall flared neck encircled by a raised line border above the luting point. The vase is applied overall with a rather uneven, mottled bright blue glaze. The main body is reserved with two large oval panels with moulded decoration picked out in underglaze blue, copper-red and celadon, one depicting a dragon swooping down through a blue cloud towards a tiger gazing up from the ground beside a celadon-glazed outcrop of rockwork, the other with a similar dragon descending on a phoenix. The neck is decorated with a copper-red lion mask handle in slightly raised relief on either side beneath the rim. The interior and base are white. The base has two concentric circles in underglaze blue enclosing the mark.
