The exterior is decorated with a frieze of eight upright lotus petal-shaped panels enclosing sprays of peony, dianthus, chrysanthemum, narcissus, prunus, tree peony and lotus, divided by pendent flowerheads on the stippled green ground; it has a cell-diaper band round the rim reserved with vignettes of the Four Accomplishments interspersed with four auspicious Emblems.
