Description

Verge watch and animated brooch set with rubies, emeralds and diamonds.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement, time and animation, no name or number. Balance cock, plain pierced table, 6 pointed star, plain foot. Brass balance with 2 1/4 turn spring. Plain cock for regulation pinion with square, access through back of case. Blued steel set-up click, wheel and spring. Blued steel automation stop levers, projection through side of case. Rectangular fusee iron post. Mechanism train ends in depthing pinion with two bladed fan. Pillar plate with four turned pillars, cylindrical. Dial on nut which secures and pivots animated rosette. Fusee and chain, barrel with one lip, set-up click on top plate. Verge escapement. Train planted clockwise. Animation train between plates and on, and under, bridged on pillar plate. Geneva stopwork on barrel arbour.

DIAL: White enamel on copper, gilt edge, two feet, counter enamel. Line minute ring, radial Arabic chapters, 4, 5, 7 and 8 read from outside. Fixing screw in place of 6 o'clock. Small white dial in centre of brooch of general oval shape. Rotating anulus around dial set with rubies and emeralds with seven smaller rotating discs set with diamonds. Each side with rotating discs with twelve points, set with ruby points and set diamonds in centre. These patterns make two seven pointed stars and a twelve pointed star. Three bezels set with diamonds. Body set with outer ring of rubies with diamonds and emeralds inside.
On pressing a small nib under the brooch sideways, the three stars revolve. The outside ones go clockwise, the inner one goes anti-clockwise, and the roses between the latter's points also go anti-clockwise. This motion is produced by a separately wound train.

HANDS: Gold, diamond shaped hour, plain minute pointer.

CASE: Cast brass, back covered with gold. Back with three holes, engraved 'W', 'M', 'F' and 'S', the last holes with rotating cover, all with arrows. Inside back scratched '3'. Back secured by twelve screws through side.

STORAGE BOX (A): Deep blue velvet covered rectangular box with two hinges and press catch, shaped brass corners on lid and base. Shaped brass plaque in centre of formed lid. Inside lid covered in silk, raised form with recess in base covered with velvet.
