Ruby back saucer dish made from hard-paste porcelain, of eggshell quality, painted in enamel colours. The shallow rounded sides with lipped rim resting on a very low tapered foot. The interior is decorated with a scene of a boy holding open a scroll painted in black, with a landscape scene, for the contemplation of a scholar. The scholar is wearing a pink robe and reclining amongst large jars and a dish of fruit, his painting implements at his side.
