Description

Rouleau vase. Hard-paste porcelain painted in a good strong enamel palette of iron-red, blue, two greens, turquoise, yellow, aubergine and black with an exotic bird perched on a prunus tree.

Rouleau vase. Hard-paste porcelain painted in a good strong enamel palette of iron-red, blue, two greens, turquoise, yellow, aubergine and black. The cylindrical body is gently taperered towards the low straight foot and shouldered beneath the short upright neck with an everted, lipped rim. The sides are boldy painted with an exotic bird with a pale iron-red breast, green wing feathers and crest and multi-coloured tail plumes perched on the branch of a flowering prunus tree which is growing beside an outcrop of jagged rockwork flanked by red peonies. A large butterfly and numerous winged insects are in flight overhead. All between yellow line borders edged in black. The shoulders are encircled by a green-ground scrollwork band reserved with red flowerheads and the neck decorated with insects beside black canes of bamboo.
