Bowl (one of a pair). Hard-paste porcelain painted on the biscuit in a enamel palette of yellow, turquoise, aubergine, white and two tones of green with details in black. It is of pentagonal shape with steeply rounded sides slightly flared towards the short galleried rim. The interior is applied with a rich egg-yellow glaze and encircled round the flat rim by a classic scroll border pencilled in black. The exterior is also applied with a yellow glaze and is decorated with panels of peony, chrysanthemum, prunus and lotus, picked out in turquoise, green and aubergine between a green-ground key-fret border round the rim and a turquoise-ground scroll band encircling the short straight foot. The base is applied with a colourless glaze.
