Description

Bowl. Hard-paste porcelain painted in iron-red, blue, yellow, two greens, turquoise, aubergine and black enamels with six lotus petal-shaped panels containing geese, a cat, Liu-hai and one of the Hehe Erxian among 'Hundred Antiques', insects on flowers, a monkey and a deer, and a gallant on horseback reserved on diaper grounds.

Bowl. Hard-paste porcelain painted in iron-red, blue, yellow, two greens, turquoise, aubergine and black enamels. The steeply rounded sides are resting on a high tapered foot and flared towards the lipped rim. The exterior is vividly painted with six large lotus petal-shaped panels edged in thin iron-red scrolls, enclosing geese on a river-bank, a cat looking up at tree-shrews on vine branches, Liu-hai and one of the Hehe Erxian among 'Hundred Antiques', insects on flowers, a monkey on the back of a deer and a gallant riding away from his sweetheart's house, divided by vignettes of birds and mythical animals round the rim; all reserved against a variety of diaper grounds and a peony scroll on a green stippled band round the base. The interior has a flower-shaped medallion showing a phoenix perched on a rock overlooking a pond surrounded by numerous birds; a broad cell-diaper border round the rim reserved with eight differently shaped vignettes of birds, flowers, sea-creatures and the three-legged toad.
