Woodburn for the Lawrence Gallery exhibition in / May 1836. It is described in the catalogue No. 71 as follows / a noble landscape - being the first study of the landscape / for the celebrated St. Peter Martyr, in which the light is differently arranged and before the tree with the round - / was introduced. This splendid drawing appears to be a / careful study from nature the trees are closer at the Top / which in the picture is thrown open to the sky from which the / angels descend with the palm branch of martyrdom. Bistre / wash heightened with white. Superb. size 163/4 x 12. / From the collection of the Marquis Legoy (sic.) (in Roupell's hand)
