Description

Soft-paste porcelain figure of Dismal Hound, slip-cast and glazed.

Soft-paste porcelain figure of Dismal Hound, slip-cast and glazed. The glaze is off-white and very speckly. The unglazed underside has a large oval opening, leaving a flange round the edge. The hound bitch sits on an oval, low mound base with its front paws apart and its head turnned to its left, looking downwards. It has floppy ears and a lugubrious expression.

Notes

History note: Dr and Mrs H. Statham; Dr Statham died 1967; Mrs Statham died 1970; their daughter, Miss Beryl Statham by whom lent anonymously in 1970. Beqeathed by Missl Statham, 19 , and accepted by H.M. Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the Fitzwilliam Museum
