Description

Maiolica pharmacy jar, painted in blue, green, yellow, and manganese, with a bust of a man and 'gothic' foliage.

Earthenware, tin-glazed on the exterior and interior; base unglazed. Painted in dark blue, green, yellow, and manganese. Albarello with slightly waisted sides and sloping shoulders.
On the front, a bust of a straight-haired man wearing a cap faces in profile to left within a contour panel scattered with groups of three dots. The back is decorated with `gothic' foliage surrounding a peacock's feather eye. Below, there are horizontal blue bands, and on the neck, slanting reversed Ss between horizontal bands.
