The Helper Pendant

Gold and enamel, quatrefoil gold frame set with enemalled plaque depicting an angel helping the figure of Christ to carry teh cross, an enamelled roundel on either side of the frame with three drops below, enamelled to resemble opals. Suspenion loop above. The reverse inscribed in black, ' the / helper / PAT [monogram] 1903'. In red leather case (A).

Relative size of this object is displayed using code inspired by Good Form and Spectacle's work on the British Museum's Waddeson Bequest website and their dimension drawer. They chose a tennis ball to represent a universally sized object, from which you could envisage the size of an object.

Working in a distinctively warm and rich palette across a range of media, including paintings, textiles, manuscripts and enamels, Traquair was among the leading artists in Edinburgh at the turn of the twentieth century. This enamel, depicting a helpful angel, was one of a series to include this character.
