The Helper Pendant
Maker: Traquair, Phoebe Anna
Gold and enamel, quatrefoil gold frame set with enamelled plaque depicting an angel helping the figure of Christ to carry the cross; an enamelled roundel on either side of the frame with three drops below, enamelled to resemble opals. Suspension loop above. The reverse inscribed in black, ' the / helper / PAT [monogram] 1903'. In red leather case (A).

Working in a distinctively warm and rich palette across a range of media, including paintings, textiles, manuscripts and enamels, Traquair was among the leading artists in Edinburgh at the turn of the twentieth century. This enamel, depicting a helpful angel, was one of a series to include this character.
