Note

Text from object entry in A. Game (2016) ‘Contemporary British Crafts: The Goodison Gift to the Fitzwilliam Museum’. London: Philip Wilson Publishers: Judy Trim studied Painting and Ceramics at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham from 1961 to 1964. She then worked as an art teacher in London and from the mid-1970s began making pots full-time, creating delicate and attenuated vessel and bowl forms which gained international acclaim. Her vessels were constructed in a slow and controlled fashion, building from coils of clay into shapes that appeared to float or be airborne. Surfaces are built up over many firings with layers of coloured slip and on-glaze precious metal lustres. The fact that this work balances on a narrow foot, and thus requires care in its handling, was important to her. The soft but lively palette of colours are signature aspects of Trim’s later work.
