Description

Soft-paste porcelain group of a man and woman seated on a bank.

Soft-paste porcelain moulded, with hand-modelled parts, and hollow underneath, covered with a clear creamy-white glaze. The interior is unglazed and has several firing cracks inside the figures. The figures sit on a bank with a tree stump between their shoulders. The woman, on the right, wears a cap with 'ears' at the front a decolleté dress with the skirt lifted up over her knees to reveal the petticoat. She holds a posy in her right hand and a large flower in her left. The man, on the left, wears a broad-brimmed hat, a ruffle round his neck, a coat, and baggy breeches, stockings and shoes. He has a basket of flowers on his right knee and a flower in each hand, and leans slightly towards the woman.
