Description

Soft-paste porcelain painted underglaze in dark blue

Soft-paste porcelain of creamy tone painted underglaze in dark blue. Cylindrical with slightly irregular sides and recessed base. The domed cover has a flange which fits inside the jar and a flat-topped circular knob. There is a zig-zag border round the lower edge of the jar, and a lambrequin border at the top. The cover has the same pattern round its outer edge, and the knob is decorated with a seven-petalled flower.

History note: Viscount Harcourt; Dowager Viscountess Harcourt; sold Sotheby's, 16 November 1945, Catalogue of Fine Continental, English and Chinese Porcelain, French and English Furniture, Works of Art, etc., part of lot 20 (two items for £12).
