Description

Handleless cup and saucer of soft-paste porcelain decorated in enamels in Kakiemon style with bees and floral sprays

Soft-paste porcelain, moulded, tin-glazed, and painted in blue, green, yellow, red, brown, and black enamels in Kakiemon style. The cup is of truncated conical form with fluted sides and scalloped and cusped rim. The saucer is lobed and cusped. One side of the cup is painted with a bee with a yellow and brown striped body, and brown and red wings, and the other with two floral sprays, one smaller than the other. The saucer is painted with a similar bee, and with one small, and one large floral spray. The rim of the cup and of the saucer is edged with brown.
