Covered sugar basin and stand of soft-paste porcelain tin-glazed and in enamels with floral sprays in Kakiemon style
Soft-paste porcelain, tin-glazed, and painted in blue, green, yellow, red, brown, and black enamels in Kakiemon style. The bowl is of elongated quatrefoil form with a projecting rim, and stands on a footring. The domed cover is of similar quatrefoil plan, with a knob in the shape of three convolvulus flowers. The elongated quatrefoil stand has curved sides and stands on a footring. The basin is decorated with floral sprays, and the rim with four motifs comprising green scrolls flanking a six-petalled flower. The stand is decorated with a small butterfly, a large winged insect, and three floral sprays. The butterfly and a small leaf hide flaws in the glaze. A brown line runs round the edge.
