The Villeroy factory operated from c. 1737-48 and the operation moved in 1749 to Mennecy. The figure was accessioned as Mennecy, but the painted D.V. mark is now believed to indicate objects made during the Villeroy period. For the reattribution to Villeroy, see Documentation, Le Duc , 1987. The figure was inspired by a Japanese Kakiemon style seated figure.
