Description

Hard-paste porcelain large dish, painted underglaze in blue with birds in a pomegranate tree, peony, chrysanthemum, lotus, peach and camellia.

Large dish. Hard-paste porcelain, thrown, and painted underglaze in pale blue; unglazed base. Circular with low curved sides, standing on an undercut footring. Kiln debris has adhered to the footring and the lower side of the bowl. Decorated in the well with birds in a pomegranate tree enclosed by two close-set concentric circles, a space and another circle. The sides are decorated with scrolling peony, chrysanthemum, lotus and (?) camellia and with two narrow bands round the rim. On the outside walls there are chrysanthemum and peach bushes, interrupted on the rim by a rectangular outline enclosing the Da Ming Jiajing nian ji mark.
