Description

Soft-paste porcelain tobacco jar and cover, lead-glazed, and painted in enamels with floral sprays.

Soft-paste porcelain, lead-glazed, and painted in blue, green, yellow, and dark-pink enamels. The glaze is speckled on the exterior. Cylindrical with recessed base, and domed cover, with an unglazed flange which fits inside the jar, and an applied knob in the shape of a rose bud, a smaller undeveloped bud, and three leaves on a stalk. The jar is decorated with one large floral spray comprising a tulip, a rose, forget-me-knots, convolvulus and pink daisies, and four smaller floral sprays. The cover is decorated with one large and one small floral spray, and has a dark puce band round the outer edge. The knob is painted in two shades of pink and green.
