Factory: Mennecy Porcelain Manufactory
Soft-paste porcelain tobacco jar and cover, lead-glazed and painted in polychrome enamels with floral sprays and a butterfly.
Soft-paste porcelain, moulded, lead-glazed,and painted in blue, green, yellow, orange, pink, puce, purple, and black enamels, with silver mounts on the rim of the cover. Cylindrical, the upper part of the sides moulded with wavy flutes, the base, recessed. The domed cover is moulded with radiating flutes, and has an artichoke finial and a silver mount with a scalloped interior edge. There is a small suspension hole in the base, and another in the interior edge of the cover. The jar is decorated with three large floral bouquets, and detached sprigs and leaves, and with a single blue and yellow butterfly. The cover has applied japonica/prunus leaves and buds radiating from a central bud-shaped knob, and is painted with floral sprigs in the spaces round the edge.
