Description

Soft-paste porcelain sugar bowl and cover, lead-glazed and painted in polychrome enamels with figures in landscapes.

Soft-paste porcelain, lead-glazed, and painted in soft shades of blue, green, greyish-green, dark pink, red, purple, several shades of brown, grey and black enamels. The glaze on the base has grey speckles. The bowl stands on a low footring. The sides curve outwards and upwards in a convex curve and then rise almost vertically to the rim. The cover is domed and has a knob in the shape of a half open rose bud, with a small rosebud and three leaves on a twig resting on the cover. The bowl is decorated with a continuous landscape in which on one side there is a distant village and a woman and a child, and on the other a lady and two gentlemen seated on rocks beside a lake. Above and below there is a narrow blue horizontal band. On the cover there is a different landscape in which there are two sheep on one side, and on the other, a goatherd playing a pipe to a seated woman, and a goat in the background to right. A narrow blue band encircles the edge of the scene. The knob is pink with pale green leaves.
