The drawings on both verso and recto are preparatory sketches for illustrations for Allan Ramsay's 'The Gentle Shepherd, A Pastoral Comedy', Glasgow, A. Foulis, 1788. The illustrations do not appear in the edition of the same date, published by R. Morison & Son in Perth.
