Pottery: unidentified English pottery
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue
Buff earthenware, tin-glazed and painted in blue. Square with a large pinhole in the glaze near the lower right front corner, a rounded triangular depression in the lower left back corner, and numerous pin-holes all over the back. The front is painted with a chequer pattern with four blue and four white squares in each row. The back is initialled and dated '.T.S./1723'.
History note: Edward Sheldon Collection, 12 St Paul's Road, Kersal, Salford, Manchester; bought from Mr Sheldon for £10 on 9 February, 1928 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
