Elegantly dressed couple, seen from behind
Draughtsman: Dolci, Agnese (not Maria)
Height: 93 mm
Width: 148 mm
Method of acquisition: Given (1917-12) by Murray, Charles Fairfax
Copied from Callot's print, 'La Promenade' (Lieure 222 I). See also the more fully worked up composition on f. 33. Callot's print comes from a series dedicated to Prince Lorenzo di Medici and published in Florence in 1617. The set entitled 'Caprici di varie Figure' was intended as a guide to drawing and several plates show a figure in outline alongside the same figure shaded in. The series was popular and was published separately in Nancy in an edition in which the background details of the more complex compositions was elaborated; from comparison of f. 33 of this sketch book with the Nancy and Florentine editions it is clear that Agnese had access to the Florentine edition.
