Description

Mahogany chest of bombé shape with lid, two drawers, four bracket feet, brass handles and brass mounts.

Mahogany chest of bombé shape at the front and sides, the lid with carved gadrooned border. A contemporary ormolu handle at each side of fluted and splayed design with leaf motif at centre. Originally embellished with pierced ormolu mounts on the upper and lower front corners, and with a large pierced lockplate. These are now missing, and the present cast lockplate is not original. Inside the lid, a modern brass strengthening band and large brass bolts. The stand is set on four bracket feet carved with gadroons, rococo scrolls and leaves, the lower moulding also carved with a foliate motif. It contains two drawers decorated with blind fretwork, each with two ormolu rococo handles and backplates
