From half-title page verso: "The special edition in two volumes quarto, bound in vellum, containing seven real hornbooks and battledores...is out of print.". From compartment at end: "This pocket contains three horn-books, one of oak, one of card, and one of ivory. The ivory horn-book is of a type unknown to the writer until after the appearance of the first (two volume) edition, now out of print, of this 'History.'". Colored illustration on title page. Blookpate of C.H. Middleton-Wake on front pastedown. Bound in brown cloth with leather panel on spine. Top edges of pages gilt.
