Description

Verge watch in gold and enamelled cross.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement, not named. Balance bridge, pierced and engraved, large six-pointed star, polished steel end pieces with faceted red end stone. Silver regulation dial, 'A' and 'R'? engraved next to cock, pattern in place of scale, plain gold pointer. Brass balance. Turned fusee iron post. Polished case bolt, conical end, nib under dial. Adjustable counter-potance, polished steel end piece. Pillar plate with three plain turned pillars, centre wheel recessed, outer edge chased. Third wheel bridge. Under-dial, flat, stamped '548' ('8' stamped over '0'). Fusee and chain, set-up ratchet under dial, one lip on barrel. Verge escapement. Train planted anti-clockwise.

DIAL: White enamel, on copper, edge gilt, three feet, counter-enamel inscribed '548'. Line minute ring with vertical Arabic quarter figures, dots at 5 minutes, vertical Arabic chapters, winding hole at 1.30, plain centre.

HANDS: Gold, narrow club ends with polished concave faces.

CASE: Cross-shaped gold, enamelled and set with pearls and two diamonds. Central round case, front cover and back with outer ring of pearls (thirty-five on front cover and thirty-eight on back), centre deep blue, translucent enamel over engine turned pattern (front and back patterns different), central, 6 pointed star of set pearls with central cut diamond, body plain. Inside body stamped '551'. Cover hinges open to reveal unprotected dial. Thin arms of cross fixed to watch case, each with gold, enamelled with deep blue, translucent, outer strips with pierced pearls in centre. Crown at end of each arm, side and bottom arms crowns surmounted with pierced pearl, top crown surmounted with enamelled and pierced mitre.

STORAGE BOX (A): Red leather covered box in shape of a four, hinged along angle. Bottom covered in green leather with label inscribed 'Old French watch at centre of cross pendant, set... & enamelled with d... - french - circa 1800 No.93. Inside, bottom recessed for cross in silk velvet. Lid covered with silk.
