Description

Rock crystal scent bottle with gold lid set with a garnet

Rock crystal, gold, enamel and a garnet; the rock crystal body is of octagonal section with straight sides externally, and cylindrical internally; it has a gold rim mount and hinged lid. The lid has a border of beads round the rim, above which is a chased border of overlapping leaves enamelled in dark translucent green. The top of the lid is slightly domed and is embossed with flutes centering on a cabuchon garnet. Inside is a flat gold stopper (A) with compressed ball-shaped knop and cork base. With fitted case (B)
