Description

Dish (one of a pair). Hard-paste porcelain painted in turquoise, aubergine, yellow, iron-red, opaque blue, two tones of green and black enamels, and gilding with a kylin and phoenix encircled by eight radiating panels enclosing birds and flowers.

Dish (one of a pair). Hard-paste porcelain painted in an enamel palette of turquoise, aubergine, yellow, iron-red, opaque blue and two tones of green with details in black and gilding. Each dish has shallow rounded sides resting on a low tapered foot; the sides are divided into thirty-two chrysanthemum petal lobes; the interior is enamelled in good bright tones with a central medallion showing a phoenix in flight above a kylin in a balustraded garden with a banana palm rising behind a pierced rock, and encircled round the sides by eight radiating panels alternately enclosing blue birds flying above different floral sprays and simple groups of flowers. The underside has three detached iron-red sprays beneath the scalloped rim.
