Description

Band sampler, linen, embroidered with polychrome silks and linen thread in buttonhole, cross, chain, darning, double running and satin stitch. The sampler comprises sixteen horizontal bands. The top six are repeat border patterns, 7-8 have an alphabet worked in satin stitch; band 9 on the left has a repeat in colour of band 6, in the centre the inscription 'Mary Petter/ May the 12/ 1718' and to the right a repeat from band 13. Bands 10 to 16 again are repeat border patterns.
