Sampler, yellow linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, satin, double running and back stitch. The majority of the sampler is taken up by a verse and an inscription with the makers name and the date 1727.
Sampler, yellow linen, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, satin, double running and back stitch. There is a selvedge at the bottom whilst the other edges are turned under and stitched. The sampler comprises of one band of a repeat border pattern, the remaining bands contain the inscription' a man's condition is this/life may be honourable/and his state as to anoth/er life may be lamnable/tis better to go with poor/lazarus to heaven than t/o go with rich dives to h/ell to gt to heaven by con/templation that we may a/void going to hell by cond/emnation oh now christi/an soul whoever thou ar/t consider the shortness of/ thy life and how uncert/ ain death is he may come/ this hour before the next/ thou art not sure when/ thou goest to bed at night/to take thy rest whether/ thou shall ever awake/again though never so w/ell and if so be thou a/wake in the morningw/hether thou shalt live t/ill night. for death is th/e great messenger of mo/rtaley and his coming is/ certain but when is unc/ertain there is no resistin/g of his mighty power/when he comes he sweep/s all befre him/Ann Roberts Her Sampl Finished in the Nine Year of her age 10 1727'.
