Description

Silver with green and black enamel; rectangular

Silver with green and black enamel, the lower interior lined with wood. Rectangular. The sides are engine-turned with a fine mesh pattern, and at each corner have a mount in the shape of a 'malachite' enamelled column, the bases of which serve as feet. The lid is decorated with a similar mesh pattern and has a stepped edge and rectangular 'malachite' thumbpiece at the centre front. The inside of the lid is inscribed 'G.H.T. / 23.9.1936'. The wooden interior is divided by two wooden walls. The base of the box is covered in black leather.

History note: Purchased for the donor's 21st birthday present by his mother, at the exhibition 'British Art in Industry' at the Royal Academy, 1935
