Description

Carriage clock with half-hour striking and hour repeating.
The clock has a rectangular brass case decorated with chased silvered strip round the base and four cylindrical Egyptian side pillars, the dial surround and side panels chased in relief with Biblical scenes, gilt, silvered and blued. On the front left is displayed 'Rebeccah at the Well'. On the right, there is a shaped handle with silvered and chased cylindrical central section. Bevelled glass glazing to front and back doors and top panel.
There is brass plated movent, and the back plate is stamped 'Army & Navy/Paris' between the winding clicks, and '456' at bottom left corner of the plate. Under the canter pivot is the word 'Hands' with a curved arrow over it. At the top are script 'S' and 'F'. There is a coiled gong on the back plate. Silvered French or Swiss platform escapement with right angle English leve escapement across the top of the movement. Brass key

History note: Received on loan 22nd April 1996. Mrs Harmer died on 2nd May 1996. The clock belonged to Mrs Harmer's late husband, Denis Bishop Harmer
