This coin is an outstanding rarity, and one of the few sub-classes of the Long Cross series that the Museum lacks. It is also an exceptionally fine striking and it was certainly selected, if not specially produced, to turn into a piece of jewellery. Once again it is the reverse cross that was chosen for display, the rivitted pin and clasp being attached to the portrait Obv.

Silver gilt ornament made from two coins of Rummen, Arnold of Orey (1331-64), AR groten (Chijs 23.4 var.). The coins are welded on the top and bottom of a silver disc 7mm thick, the edge of which is finely engraved with a gothic inscription *THOMAS: [ ]; 16.27g, 24mm dia. x 7mm thick, cut portion with c.40% missing. This is a very unusual object, of high status to judge from the quality of the engraving. The 'Thomas' named on it has not yet been identified. Found at Sandwich, Kent, 1992 by Mr G. Wright of Ramsgate (shown at the BM and Dover Archaeological Society, 1993).
