Description

Fruit wood, silver and silver-gilt; wood bowl with silver handle and pomegranate finial

Fruit wood, silver and silver-gilt; the wood bowl is a fig-shaped on a tapering stem which has been incised with two pairs of lines on the front. The silver handle is embossed with tapering spiral flutes and terminates in a silver-gilt pomegranate, which is capped with a quatrefoil (one petal missing). The stem and back of the pomegrate are scratch engraved 'MK' and 'RK' respectively.

Techniques used in production

Carving : The wood bowl and tapering stem were carved. The silver handle was embossed and the seam down the back was soldered. The pomogranate was gilded and soldered to the silver handle. The hollow silver handle was glued over the short wood stem. The initials were engraved.
