Miniature from a Laudario
Artist: Bonaguida, Pacino di, and associates
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment 195 x 220 mm, miniature 180 x 205 mm, ten lines of text on reverse ruled in faint brown ink.
CONTENTS: The reverse, which was the recto in the original manuscript, preserves the folio number LXXXXIIII and part of a lauda for St Peter:
Essendo te huom pescatore
capostolo tifece et pastore
et de la chiesa te fe capo.
Ih[es]u n[ost]ra claritade ti die tal
podestade disciolliere in ter-
ra et dilegare ogne legame
di peccato.
Dell alto coro apoloro princi-
pe se infra loro et lechiaui
del regno celoro ai apostoloro
The lauda would have marked the feast of Saints Peter and Paul (29 June) and must have been introduced by the miniature of their martyrdoms, Fitzwilliam Museum, Marlay cutting It. 83.
DECORATION: Large framed miniature on blue background: St Mary Magdalene in the wilderness around Aix is being carried by angels to St Maximin who administers her last communion.
ORNAMENTATION: Alternate blue and red penwork initials [1-2 ll.] with red or violet pen-flourished infill and extensions for the beginning of stanzas on reverse.
