Description

Bone china, painted underglaze in blue, and overglaze in enamels, and gilded in Imari style with a landscape with buildings and a crouching tiger. Pattern no. 1214

Bone china, painted underglaze in blue, overglaze in pale apricot and red enamels, and gilded. Bute shape cup with oval ring handle. Circular saucer with curved sides, standing on a footring. The exterior pf the cup is decorated with an Oriental landscape in which are a tree, a group of buildings, a bird perching in a tree branch, and a tiger lying down in front of a rock covered in daisy-like flowers. There is a gold band round the base and rim, inside which is a border of slanting leaves and pairs of berries with a narrow and a wider band above and below. The back of the handle is decorated with five stylized leaves of graduated size. The saucer is decorated with a different version of the design with the tiger lying down on the left below the tree, and with a matching border. Pattern 1214.
