Description

A valentine front-paper separated from the back (remnants along the left edge) with a lace-paper border of urns and flowers to which is affixed at centre left and right blue paper leaves studded with copper-coloured hearts. A collage of heavily-embossed and hand-coloured flowers, foliage and bird at lower centre. A gold 'anchor of hope' with hand-painted forget-me-not 'rope' is affixed at upper centre. A central embossed, gilded and 'jewelled' frame surrounds a padded silk panel with cut-paper, embossed and hand-coloured church with gilded details and with a further collage of embossed and hand-coloured flowers to either side. A printed verse on the silk below: 'I will be true as thou art fair / I will shield thy heart from care / I will guard thee, cherish, love ... And never leave thee lone to pine / If I may be thy Valentine'.
