Valentine card
Printmaker: Unknown
An amateur valentine collage arranged on a 4to-sized sheet of buff-coloured paper. A lithograph of a Spanish bride and bridegroom c. 1700s in a palace garden. The male figure appears to be gesturing towards a church steeple seen on the distant horizon. This print has been cut and shaped around the image. A cutting of a printed verse is affixed below: "Can flowers or letters, or aught I can say / Or pledges of love I to thee might convey / can such things, or all things, how many or few / Describe what I feel in affection for you." An inscription in graphite at upper left corner: "2.". P.14351-R was found loose inside album P.14348-R and is another leaf of similar numbered, buff-coloured paper with a cutting from a periodical about Hymen and Cupid pasted onto it.
